The art of showing up (week 5)
Being a perfectionist is not a bad thing, but I would argue that perfectionists procrastinate the most. Recently, I started identifying with the idea of taking action, even imperfectly, rather than focusing on flawlessness. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be doing our best. I’m saying that it is better to do something today at our 10% of capacity rather than doing nothing.
If you enjoy playing guitar, drawing, dancing, or anything else. I’m saying that it is better to do your practice badly than not at all. Even if all you did today was sketching, it is still better than not drawing at all.
My experience with confirmation bias.
I started noticing that I’m only human, and I fall for mental traps and biases. This week, I discovered a nifty open-source alternative to Notion called Anytype. Right after I started using it, I was looking for videos on YouTube about other people’s experiences with it. I was subconsciously enjoying videos where people were comparing it to Notion and Obsidian and other programs and how better it is or how it is the perfect mix of these two. Then, of course, I realized that I’m purposely seeking videos which support my opinion and feelings about the program. This made me understand that when people ask me for recommendation or opinion about something. They’re usually just checking if I have the same idea/opinion which supports theirs. I don’t recall anyone buying something, taking my advice or deciding based on my recommendation. People often already know what they want. They’re just seeking other opinions to reinforce theirs.
Better workout plan
After a month of going to the gym and doing either random or the same exercises over and over again. I decided to look up a decent workout plan for myself. Unfortunately, I’m going to have to work more on my mobility before I’ll start squatting or deadlifting. I found out that I have slightly limited mobility in my ankles and hips, which is not ideal for squats. But it’s okay, I still have plenty of exercises I can do meanwhile.
Weekly updates or weekly posts?
I planned for this year to do weekly posts, not exactly weekly updates about my life. But this is my personal blog after all, so I guess this makes more sense… Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to work on my promised article about open-source games because I was busy lazy.
